Internal environment, air-quality and health A Ziegel construction presents ideal living conditions throughout the year. It can counterbalance changes in temperature and humidity, acting as a natural air conditioner Internal walls are built with Ziegel blocks of a higher density than those used for the external walls. This help to control temperature peaks. High room temperatures, reached for example through solar gain, can be absorbed into the internal walls where it will be stored. This energy or heat is slowly released back into the room as the surrounding temperature drops. The dual capacity of Ziegel to thermally store and insulate keeps a Ziegel construction cool in Summer and warm in Winter. Ziegel has the lowest natural moisture equilibrium of all building materials and is vapour permeable. It naturally regulates internal humidity levels. Ziegels high capillary action enables it to absorb and store moisture, which it then rapidly transports to the outside. The wall surface remains dry preventing areas of surface condensation which cause mould formation. Ziegel contains no poisonous substances and does not emit harmful vapours or gases, dust particles or fibres. It has the ability to filter out toxins from the air. |
